Citizens on Patrol (COP)
The mission of Citizens on Patrol (COP) is to help build safer communities by encouraging Sexsmith residents to take part in a community-based crime prevention program in cooperation with local law enforcement. Volunteers assist police by helping reduce their workload through observation and reporting.
Citizens on Patrol volunteers conduct visible patrols in parks, schools, businesses, hotels, and residential neighborhoods. Duties include observing and reporting suspicious or unusual activity to the RCMP or County Peace Officers. COP volunteers do not carry weapons and do not have powers of arrest. Their presence helps deter crime and promotes a sense of safety for residents and visitors.
